Filtered water is awesome

I can't read the news and not feel terrified. I'm at odds with staying informed and staying sane. How are you doing?

I'm focusing on trying to stay hydrated. On focusing on just getting through the day. One day at a time.

Since my kids were really little, we have opted for reusable water bottles made from stainless steel. KleanKanteen is a favorite. We refill using water that has passed through both Brita and Culligan ZeroWater filters. ZeroWater filters out 99.6% of particulates and chemicals including PFAS. Our filtered water tastes like nothing, which is what water should taste like. **From a dental perspective, they’re also filtering out fluoride, which is super important to still have topical exposure to, especially developing teeth, so if you want to prevent cavities, please please please still make sure you and your kids are using fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day, and not rinsing it out after brushing!**

Disposable plastic water bottles have tons of nanoplastics in them. Microplastics and nanoplastics are said to be not only in our blood, but now even in our atherosclerotic plaques and in our brains! When you think about the plastic pieces in our bodies, it's not just the space they occupy, but they often contain plasticizers like PFAS and phthalates, cancer-causing chemicals that make them act like plastic.

Our reusable drinking vessels sometimes get lost, but they lead to some fun stories... because many times, we go through various hoops to find them again! Last year, our kiddo left his water bottle in a restaurant at dinner. When we came home and couldn't find it, my husband drove 30mins back to the restaurant the same night, only to find that it was exactly where my kiddo had left it, on the table with all our dishes. The restaurant was so busy that nobody had even touched it!

Each kiddo has only one reusable water bottle that they are responsible for that ever leaves the house. It's much easier to keep tabs of your water bottle when there's only one.
